The sorgo ensemble was founded by Hrvoje Jugovic and Maria Bader-Kubizek as an ensemble with varying instrumentation. The musicians of the ensemble play on original instruments and specialise in compositions from the 18th and 19th century. When the exhibition “Experiment Aufklärung“ (The Enlightenment Experiment) was opened in Vienna in 2006, the year of Mozart, by the Da Ponte Institute, Hrvoje Jugovic performed on the so-called “Dubrovnik Walter piano “ one of the most precious exhibits of the Mozart Exhibition at Albertina. In the course of the 2006 Augsburg Mozart Festival, Maria Bader-Kubizek played on the violin which once belonged to Leopold Mozart, another classic original instrument.

Launched in 2007, the Sorgo Ensemble is named after Luca Sorgo Sorkocevic in Croatian and his son Anton, hailing from Dubrovnik. Both are amongst the most important Croatian composers of the 18th century. |
